Management Team

  • Professor Nachum Kedar
    Prof . Kedar is the founder of the BonTom research group and serves as Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Agricultural, Food & Environmental Quality Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Backed by over 40 years of experience in tomato genetics and breeding , with special emphasis on shelf-life, taste and disease resistance, Prof. Kedar has to his credit over 100 publications on vegetable production and breeding. His current research deals with breeding of high-yield greenhouse tomatoes with improved flavor. and with breeding of cluster (truss) varieties.
  • Professor Haim D. Rabinowitch
    Currently Rector of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Prof. Rabinowitch co-heads the BonTom research group. Previous positions include Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural, Food & Environmental Quality Sciences, head of the Faculty of Agriculture Research Committee, and head of the Academic Committee of the Israeli Gene Bank.
  • Prof. Rabinowitch’s current research interests include:
    • Breeding for yield, disease resistance, quality and long shelf-life in tomatoes and in short-day onions and shallots.
    • Physiology : Research and development in alliaceous crops.
    • Florogenesis : Physiology and genetics of flowering in garlic.
    • Seed production : Physiology and genetics of flowering, pollination and fertilization processes, with regard to fruit and seed set in vegetable crops.
    • Soil solarization : Physiological responses of plants on solarized soils.
    • Oxygen toxicity in plants : The role of oxygen-free radicals in physiological disorders caused by environmental factors and defense mechanisms against oxygen toxicity
  • Professor Jaacov Katan
    A phytopathologist of the Hebrew University Department of Plant Pathology and Microbiology. Holding the title of Honorary President of the Israeli Phytopathological Society, Prof. Katan has over 200 publications to his credit, numerous prizes, and has been guest lecturer at universities in the UK and USA. Specializing in Fusarium and Verticillium, his main areas of research include:
    • Soilborne pathogens
    • Soil microbiology
    • Soil solarization for controlling soilborne diseases
    • Biological control
    • Interactions between pesticides
    • Breeding for resistance
  • Mr. Ziv Shomroni . Business Manager ( B.Sc).
    Mr. Shomroni brings more than 15 years of experience in management, marketing, business development, and software and hardware development to his current position as BonTom’s Business Manager. Prior to joining BonTom, Mr. Shomroni served as managing director of RealTech Communication Ltd., was managing director of GalCon Ltd., and held several executive positions with high-tech companies in the field of telecommunications. Mr. Shomroni holds a B.Sc. in Information Systems Management from the University of Maryland.
